The Group is currently campaigning to:-
Retain the through Watford-Brighton ‘Southern’ service
The Group’s aims here are to restore the direct trains throughout each day, increase the frequency to two trains an hour and reinstate the service to Milton Keynes. Beyond providing a useful service to a wide range of markets, achieving these aims should raise the service’s profile with the travelling public and the railway industry, thus improving its ridership and reliability. This service provides a vital rail link for commuters, exhibition visitors, airport and leisure travellers and should be promoted as a "Thameslink West" route, not progressively cut back.
The Group has submitted detailed objections to both the SRA and Alistair Darling, Secretary of State for Transport on the SRA’s Brighton Main Line Route Utilisation Strategy (which proposes the service’s curtailment south of Clapham Junction) and continues to seek the support of MP’s in key constituencies along the route.
The Group is also considering developing proposals to:-
Extend the Clapham Junction-Willesden Junction Silverlink service
The group is looking for this service to be extended eastwards on the North London Line to Stratford to provide interchange with Eurostar services.
The group is also preparing a response to the consultation relating to the proposals to operate the underground later at weekends.
The Group is also looking to build closer relationships with individual passengers and commercial interests along the West London Line corridor.
In terms of its own structure and processes, the Group is drawing up a Constitution, a Memorandum of Operations and an Activity Plan. The Chairman is also very keen to hear from passengers and others who wish to support the Group, especially those who are interested in joining the Executive Committee.
